Selected Works
Below are selected works representing some of the honors Suzanna has earned, along with a little information about each piece.
“Daydream, Asylum Series, no. 2” is heading to the 45th Annual Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors. Thank you to the View Arts Center for hosting this prestigious event. This piece also was awarded 2nd place in the 49th International Watermedia Exhibition (IWE), 2026. My sincerest appreciation to judge and juror Don Andrews and the Watercolor Art Society of Houston for including my work in this important exhibition and for appreciating my voice. About this piece: I was exploring the abandoned areas of the Randolph County Infirmary, and stumbled onto this space with an empty wheelchair. Just beyond the glass, a fire escape hints at movement and freedom—an unreachable threshold for someone once bound to this daily view.
“Vesper” has been accepted into the Rhode Island Watercolor Society’s National Watermedia Exhibition 2026. Many thanks to juror Joel Popadics for selecting my work, and to the RIWS for hosting the National Watermedia Exhibition. The show runs May 30th - July 3rd. About this piece: This nocturne grew from revisiting a historic barn that has quietly shaped my work for years. The owners first welcomed me there long ago to paint and demonstrate during their educational events, and returning recently allowed me to experience the property with fresh eyes. The weathered textures, quiet forms, and evening light carried both familiarity and gratitude.
“Sentiment, Asylum Series, No. 1” received 3rd Place at the 4th Annual Allen Whitehill Clowes Collaborative Invitational Exhibition, 2026. Many thanks to judge Shaun Dingwerth for selecting my painting as one of the four award winners, and to the Hoosier Art Salon and Herron School of Art for hosting this year’s exhibition. About this piece: The worn velvet chair became a kind of stand-in for the heart itself—soft, warm, and inviting, yet marked by time and use. Around it, the hospital-green walls, cold tile, peeling paint, and aging radiator create a quiet tension against the chair’s warmth. A vintage radio on the windowsill suggests music, rain beyond the glass, and moments of retreat inward. This piece reflects my exploration of vulnerability, comfort, and the emotional spaces we carry within us.
"Treasure Trove" will be a part of the 56th Louisiana Watercolor Society International Exhibition, 2026. Sincerest gratitude to juror Matthew Bird for selecting my painting for this important exhibition. This piece was also included in the Missouri Watercolor Society's 2025 International Juried and Judged Exhibition at Saks Fifth Avenue Gallery in Frontenac, MO, and was juried into the 2025 101st Annual Hoosier Art Salon. About this piece: This painting was inspired by an unexpected moment inside the historic Swope Art Museum. Stepping into the museum’s old third-floor storage area, I was struck by the beauty of the aging space—sunlight pouring through tall windows, reflections moving across antique mirrored cabinets, glowing hardwood floors, and peeling walls revealing brick beneath. This painting was born in that moment.
“Grit” was accepted into the Richmond Art Museum’s 127th Annual Exhibition by Indiana and Ohio Artists. My sincerest thanks to the jurors Uranchimeg (Orna) Tsultemin, Malcolm Mobutu Smith, and Brad Davis, as well as to the Richmond Art Museum and their supporters for hosting this wonderful event every year.
